After having knocked about the world on Dreamcast and GameCube, Skies of Arcadia will finish its career on PC. Really though I'm just critiquing the game for sake of debate. Skies of Arcadia =Characters They're pretty good characters, if not a little on the obvious / stereotyped side. So I call 'em average, Vyse's attitude's a bit too light-hearted.
Not really a -, but it's not pulled off well enough to be a + (FFX-2 has great light-hearted characters). Aika's kinda forgettable, but not completley. Fina's the usual reserved person that comes somewhat out of their shell later. And hook-hand man, who's name I've forgotten atm seems too mentor-like. All of the enemies are easily forgettable./+ Battle System On foot Battle system is average at best, takes almost no skill.

The color magic system is interesting, but no where near as well balanced or tactical as it should be. A for effort though. Ship battle system is wonderful though. Requires a bit of tactics, Xenogears requird more with its basic battle system though, but the epic feel to the Ship fights is great in SoA. +World Design One of the more original designed worlds out there, there have been similar ideas but this game really felshes out a lot of the possibilities with it's floating continents. The cities in the game (villages?) are entertaining, could have been better, but I'm sure its because of hte DC's limitations, since the world was so creative.

I dunno, maybe PDS and PS set the bar too high for my expectations from them. The adventerous attituted througout though keeps it from being a -, as you are always lookin for the next treasure/discovery. Gave you somethin to do and aspire to even though it was for the most part pointless. +Music DC versions music is a huge plus for me, it set the mood perfectly for every situation. It was music that got you into the game, feeling threatened, happy, curious, enquiring etc.
And each town had specific tunes as well. That about covers it. I do enjoy the game, but it could have been a lot better than it was, namely if they had fleshed out the 3 main characters a lot more than they did. Oh the base building thing is a + as well, but doesn't really fall into any categories up there. It added some personalization to the game. I really need to play through the GC version, but the music is so dissapointing in that one, as are the textures - they screwd up on the opacity somewhere or something. Hopefully the PC version will be the GC version (Legends) and with the fabulous music from the DC version.
